EUROGI Policy Papers: SME & Regional Development

BACKGROUND

EUROGI is currently in the process of preparing policy position papers regarding five topics, two of which will be dealt with in this workshop. The other three relate to the Internet of Things, Big/Linked Data and Open Data.
The policies will focus on the role of Geographic Information (GI) and GeoTechnologies (GT).

WORKSHOP AIMS

  • To present key ideas in EUROGI’s draft policy positon papers on each of the two workshop topics.
  • To present case studies to highlight good practices.
  • To promote stimulating discussion and participant inputs which can be both enlightening to the participants and can be picked up by EUROGI for incorporation into its next round of draft policy position papers on each of the two workshop topics.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Policy makers in the European Commission, national and sub-national (e.g. regions, cities) governments who in particular play roles related to business promotion, and urban and regional development and all its various facets.
  • Business people in businesses of all sizes, but particularly in SMEs in the Geographic Information (GI) field and non-GI/GT SMEs who consider that they may be able to use GI and GT.
  • Persons involved in managing cities or regions, in particular persons involved in developing or promoting smart cities or smart regions or wishing to find out more about taking the ‘smart’ approach.
  • Land use planners, environmentalists, utility providers, ICT personnel, and others involved in city or regional development.

    • Key possible policies concerning urban and regional development (EUROGI policy group leader, Pascal Lory)
  • Two breakout groups, one focussing on each topic area
  • Breakout group report back (Rapporteurs)
  • Closure (EUROGI President, Bruce McCormack)
